Well tonight was certainly eventful! Our geyser burst. Now this is a horrid thing to happen but we can not believe how lucky we actually are. First of all we were home, secondly we were both home, thirdly Andy managed to turn off the mains pretty quickly and came up with a brilliant idea of draining the water out through the manhole which prevented massive ceiling damage so all in all it was a lot better than it could have been.
We were actually due to go out for the night but as we started changing and getting ready to go it happened. Imagine if it happened just a half hour later. We would have come home to mass destruction. The lounge and study are worst affected and there is a lot of cleaning up to be done but luckily Plumbers came out within an hour and will return tomorrow to start repairing and we should have water again by tomorrow afternoon.
Unfortunately we are looking at a carpet replacement and replacement of sections of the new flooring which is now swelling and lifting and huge sections of the ceiling need to be ripped out and replaced but we have insurance and will get through this relatively unscathed.
Legislation on houses built prior to 1999 did not make provision for drip trays so we did not have one in place but now that this has happened we will get a Rolls Royce replacement and be good for a number of years to come.
Lets call this a final adventure for 2009!

Yikes! What timing though. Glad it was contained.
We would love to get the stats on how many geysers blow over holiday periods. I cant tell you how many Plumbers turned me down when I was frantically phoning around as they said they are inundated with burst geysers!
