Yet another innocent child was abducted and killed for traditional "muti purposes" over the New Year period. How shocking that the nation is not reeling over this. We have almost become conditioned to expect this type of thing although we do express horror and pity for the family there is not a mass outcry in which we state unequivocally that this must never ever happen again. I personally think this is partly due to the fact that it happens so often and also because there is this tread lightly trend when anything, even a violent crime relates to tradition or culture.
Surely it is time now to accept that we are no longer cave men and women and that the traditions which stood a hundred years ago are no longer acceptable.
No! I do not care for your tradition and it is not acceptable as it is plain and simple murder!
Zuma gave a speech about leaving behind cultural negativity in 2010. How exactly do you propose that this happens in practice dear Zuma when our children are murdered simply because they possess body parts which traditional healers want????
I often get annoyed when I hear ridiculous stories about what overseas travellers are expecting when they come to South Africa for the 2010 world cup soccer. I feel like screaming out "we are pretty civilised and no there are no lions roaming freely in the streets" but hey who can blame them for asking if they need to wear stab protection vests while they are here when this type of mutilation goes on with regular monotony.
So much time and so many resources are spent on things like drug free society and collecting outstanding taxes and traffic fines etc all of which I support but how about some time and money put to good use for a muti free nation?!

shocking and horrific. But I guess the bottom line is : do the majority of people think it's OK to kill a child for superstitious ingredients that heal (purportedly) ? If the answer is yes, you're screwed. Guess the only way to mend the situation is education, exposure, and media coverage to discuss the issues.
Imagine if it was Zuma's child ? His eldest for instance. Surely something would be done then.
Now you can see what it came to a point where God killed all the eldest children in Egypt to get Pharoah's attention. And boy! did it work.
Traditional healers do not engage in murder or utilise human body parts in their mixtures. Sangoma and Nyanga are amongst these traditional healers, some use only herbs while some use animal products with the herbs. The “muthi murders” which you are referring to is the African cultural concept of the ‘mThakathi’ a word referring to the secret use of muthi, zombies, spells, spirits, magic powders, water, mixtures, etc. by a person with the sole intent and purpose of causing harm, damage or sickness to others or their property or outright murder.
